The mission of Sage Canyon is to foster a supportive and challenging school community that fuels A CONTAGIOUS SPARK for learning and recognizes students as unique individuals.

What Is PBiS?
PBiS is based on the idea that students learn appropriate behavior the same way they learn to read - through instruction, practice, feedback and encouragement. PBiS gives our staff a clear set of defined positive expectations and behaviors so that there is consistency throughout our school. Classroom interventions are a key piece for students who may need help monitoring and correcting behavior. Students are recognized for meeting behavior expectations through the use of a school-wide reward system.

Why PBiS?
Traditionally, school-wide discipline has mainly focused on reacting to student misbehavior by implementing punishment based strategies such as reprimands, loss of privileges, office referrals, suspensions and expulsions. Research has shown that the use of punishments, especially when it is used inconsistently and in absence of positive strategies, is ineffective.  Introducing, modeling and reinforcing positive social behavior is a large part of a student's school experience. Teaching expectations for behavior and recognizing students for following those expectations is a much more positive approach than waiting for misbehavior to happen and then responding.  The purpose of a school-wide PBiS system is to establish a climate in which appropriate behavior is the norm.
